Opportunities Abound at LAGCOE 2015

LAFAYETTE, LA.–More than 430 exhibitors along with 15 technical and international presentations await visitors to the 2015 Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition, Oct. 27-29 at the Cajundome & Convention Center in Lafayette. At LAGCOE, attendees can meet hard-working professionals with the real hands-on experience that has increased industry productivity throughout the world.
In 2013, LAGCOE welcomed 416 exhibiting companies from across the globe and more than 17,000 attendees from 43 countries and 47 U.S. states.
LAGCOE 2015 features a full agenda of presentations on innovative technological advances, and business issues covering both onshore and offshore operations.
Technical sessions kick off at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, with two presentations:
- “The Delta House Development–Implementation of a Fast Track Project,” a semisubmersible floating production system located in 4,500 feet of water in the Mississippi Canyon protraction area of the Gulf of Mexico, presented by Rick Fowler, vice president of deepwater projects for LLOG Exploration Company; and
- “Lien on Me: Are you Privileged?” presented by Sam Masur, Armistead Long and David Rogers, all of Gordon Arata McCollam Duplantis & Eagan LLC.
Christopher Mancini with Oceaneering International Inc. will present, “Deepwater Rigless Well Stimulation Technology,” at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Following Mancini’s presentation, the first of two keynote addresses will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Doug Lawler, president, chief executive officer and director of Chesapeake Energy, will present, “2016 Outlook: Leadership, Performance and Value.”
From 2:15 to 3:15 p.m., Jason French, director of government and public affairs at Cheniere Energy, will wrap up day one of the technical program by discussing LNG and the American energy landscape.
New Technology Showcase
The program on Wednesday, Oct. 28, opens at 10 a.m. with LAGCOE’s New Technology Showcase, sponsored by Drilling Contractor. Various new technologies will be presented in a quick and informative overview format:
- Superior Safety wrench system, by Concentric Pipe and Tool Rental;
- Halliburton’s VersaFlex XteremeGrip expandable liner hanger system, and SaltShieldSM cementing service;
- The Freedom 38 PPATM plasma cutting system, and laser and water-jet cutting products from Hypertherm;
- PhDSoft Technology’s structural integrity software;
- Pneumatic and Hydraulic Company’s Hydrus tools; and
- Well construction equipment and liner hanger, by Seminole Services.
Gary Luquette, president and CEO of Frank’s International LLC, gets things started Wednesday afternoon with a 1 p.m. keynote address about surviving and prospering in a difficult market, which is sure to draw a crowd.
From 2:15 to 3:15 p.m., the focus shifts to “Comprehensive and Rapid Deepwater Containment Response System,” presented by Mike Pendergast, deputy regional director for the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and Roger Scheuermann, special projects adviser at Helix Well Containment Group.
International Presentations
LAGCOE is one of only two oil and gas shows selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce to participate in its International Buyer Program Select. Export counseling and business-to-business meetings will take place in the LAGCOE International Trade Center on the Convention Center’s second level from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29.
LAGCOE 2015 will feature seven international presentations covering opportunities in Africa, Latin America, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Korea.
Ali Moshiri, president of Chevron Africa & Latin America, will present information about Africa and Latin America to kick off LAGCOE’s international program from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
A 2:15-5 p.m. session titled, “Transforming Ukraine’s Oil & Gas Sector: Major Reforms and Emerging Opportunities for U.S. Partners,” will feature six Ukrainian speakers who will each present about topics pertaining to Ukraine’s oil and gas sector. They are:
- Olga Bielkova, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, speaking on the package of new laws necessary for realizing Ukraine’s energy reforms;
- Igor Didenko, deputy minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, speaking on the state of Ukraine’s energy sector and its future development strategy;
- Vadym Glamazdin, deputy CEO of the Energy Industry Research Center and host country official, providing an overview of Ukraine’s major energy sector achievements;
- Lyudmyla Kuchmenko, CEO of Geo Alliance Group, talking about opportunities in Ukraine from a private company point of view;
- Vadym Pozharskyi, adviser to the Burismo Holdings Board of Directors, discussing private gas production in Ukraine as a driver for energy efficiency and independence; and
- Stepan Kozytskyi, director at Goryzonty Drilling Company, talking about prospects for cooperation in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in western Ukraine.
Tuesday’s international presentations will conclude with a panel discussion about Mexico’s newest opportunities and opening the Gulf of Mexico from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Presenters are Gustavo Hernandez, director general for exploration and production at Petróleos Mexicanos; Francisco Xavier Salazar, president, Energy Regulatory Commission; Carlos de Regules, executive director, National Agency for Industrial Security and the Protection of the Environment for the Hydrocarbons Sector; and Juan Carlos Zepeda, president, National Hydrocarbons Commission.
A session titled, “Keys to Conducting International Business,” at 10 a.m. Wednesday features a panel of international business and legal professionals presenting useful information for companies considering or actively planning to export or locate in a foreign country. This is one session companies interested in expanding or entering international markets should not miss.
Two sessions will take place from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday about the offshore industry and opportunities in Korea and Saudi Arabia: “Opportunities–Growth and Technology Needs.”
The final session of the day is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and features Aramco Services Company presenting, “Partnering with the Best: Aramco Sourcing for Global Operations,” presented by Saleh Al-Rumaih, manager of procurement & logistics.
Aramco Services Company and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency are joining LAGCOE 2015 as exhibitors and international presenters, offering avenues for new business for U.S. companies.
Professional Development
The Third Annual LAGCOE Career Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Hiring companies will meet potential employees either at their exhibit spaces or in Career Fair booths on the Cajundome Concourse level. Supporting energy professionals in transition, this event also offers career development sessions to aid professionals as they work to keep skills fresh and seek employment. Sessions are:
- “Resume Workshop: Can your Resume Pass the 10 Second Test?” by Danielle M. Dayries;
- “The Five Steps to Supercharging and Building your Oil and Gas Career,” by Jason Lopez;
- “How to Create a Great LinkedIn Presence,” by Laurie J. James; and
- “Staying Motivated during your Job Search,” by Sue Schleifer.
In addition, professionals will be reviewing resumes free of charge at the event for all job seekers interested in this service.
LAGCOE’s Future Energy Professionals Program, established through the LAGCOE Education Fund to encourage students to pursue technical positions that fuel our world, will double in size from LAGCOE 2013 by offering both morning and afternoon programs. Two hundred high school juniors and seniors are being given a tour of LAGCOE, led by a Young Professional of LAGCOE volunteer and a University of Louisiana-Lafayette Engineering Ambassador for a hands-on experience with the technology and mechanics of the oil and gas industry.
New At LAGCOE 2015
New for LAGCOE 2015, the Energy Innovators Pitch Challenge is a collaborative effort between LAGCOE and two economic organizations: INNOV8 Acadiana and the Lafayette Economic Development Authority’s Opportunity Machine. This event seeks to connect the best emerging energy innovators ready to move their business ideas forward with credible investors.
The Energy Innovators Pitch Challenge winners will be showcased throughout LAGCOE at the Energy Innovators tent, with a culminating Shark Tank-style pitch event on Thursday. The best presentation will receive an INNOV8 Award and possible funding for the idea. For more information, or to apply to present an idea, visit LAGCOE.com/energyinnovators.
For the first time in its 60-year existence, LAGCOE will award a new Cadillac to a winning industry attendee, at noon on Thursday. Attendees may qualify for the drawing simply by visiting six exhibitors identified on the maps located in the LAGCOE program guide, and in the LAGCOE 2015 phone application.
Continuing the conversation that began at the 2013 LAGCOE, LAGCOE DRILLS, an industry think tank event on leadership, legacy and succession, will highlight women in energy. This invitation-only event, hosted by Excelerant, will identify and create conversation about issues such as work/life balance, safety, and professional development that impact retaining women and other nontraditional work groups.
The Young Professionals of LAGCOE are wrapping up the inaugural year of the newly established mentor program. A luncheon will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday to promote developing productive relationships, engaging in positive networks, and building leadership skills through industry mentoring. This event is open to mentor/“mentee” pairs of Young Professionals of LAGCOE and individuals interested in participating.
